Floating & Green Energy Consulting is an independent, concept-neutral, privately owned consulting firm based in Houston, Texas. Our founder Dr. Jun Zou was former co-founder of well recognized Houston Offshore Engineering Company (founded in 2005), later served as HOE Atkins Global Naval Architect director and HOE Kent Naval Architect director. We are distinguished by our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional expertise in both the Conventional and Renewable Energy industries. Our core mission is to deliver highly efficient, cost-effective, sustainable, and innovative technologies that drive progress in these critical sectors.
Our founder, Dr. Jun Zou has a remarkable career spanning over three decades in the Oil & Gas and Ship industries, supplemented by more than a decade of dedicated involvement in the Floating Green Energy sector. Dr. Zou is widely recognized as a leading expert in these fields, having served as the Director of Naval Architecture since 2005.
Dr. Zou’s successful career has been characterized by his relentless pursuit of ambitious and complex design and engineering challenges. He brings a wealth of experience to our consultancy, including:
- Various floater configurations: Tension Leg Platform (TLP); Semi-submersible Platform (Semi); Spar
- Different mooring and tendon systems including mooring/tendon hardware
- Model testing programs: wind tunnel, wave basin and VIM tests
- New concept/hull form developments
- Analysis software development
In addition to his involvement in industry production projects, Dr. Zou has played a significant role in numerous research and development (R&D) initiatives. These encompass internal research efforts, collaborations with industry consortia such as DeepStar, projects supported by the Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America (RPSEA), and research endeavors funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
Dr. Zou’s dedication to advancing knowledge is evident through his authorship and co-authorship of over 60 technical papers(Dr. Zou’s Researchgate profile) These publications cover a wide range of topics within the domains of naval architecture, marine engineering, and renewable energy technologies. They serve as valuable resources for professionals and researchers seeking insights and innovations in these fields.
Furthermore, Dr. Zou’s innovative thinking has resulted in the granting of four U.S. patents. These patents exemplify his capacity to translate groundbreaking concepts into practical solutions with the potential to reshape industries and promote sustainability.
Beyond his technical contributions, Dr. Zou has taken on several notable roles:
- Board Membership: He has served as a board member of the Industry Advisor Board of the Ocean Engineering Department at Texas A&M University. This position allows him to provide guidance and expertise to the academic community.
- Editorial Board: Dr. Zou is also a respected member of the editorial board for the international journal “Ocean System Engineering”. In this capacity, he helps shape the scholarly discourse in his field.
- Textbook Contribution: He has contributed significantly to the development of a state-of-the-art textbook titled “Nonlinear Waves and Offshore Structures.” This contribution enhances the educational resources available to students and professionals alike.
- Chapter Authorship: Dr. Zou’s expertise has been featured as a chapter contributor in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) book titled “Spar Monograph,” further solidifying his reputation as a thought leader.
In addition to his professional commitments, Dr. Zou and his wife have demonstrated their commitment to nurturing future talent by establishing a scholarship to support Ocean Engineering students at Texas A&M University since 2018. Furthermore, Dr. Zou has generously contributed his time and expertise to mentor Aggie Senior Ocean Engineering Capstone projects for three consecutive years, helping to shape the next generation of industry leaders.
